Vic: Disability workers to step up industrial campaign

Disability workers are set to step up their campaign of industrial action this week,
with a major stoppage in country Victoria on Wednesday and one in Melbourne on Friday.

The action is part of a Health and Community Services Union campaign over pay and conditions
which began at the start of this month.

About 700 intellectually disabled workers were without carers for three-hour periods
this weekend as part of the campaign.

The union and government negotiators are holding talks to try to break the impasse.

But the union's state secretary LLOYD WILLIAMS says unless there is a breakthrough
by Wednesday workers across the state will stop work for five hours and meet to consider
further escalating their action.

On Friday, Melbourne disability workers will also hold a five-hour stoppage if there
is no positive outcome from the talks.
